Racist Obama Cartoon?

A political cartoon published in the Boston Herald was meant to satirize the Secret Service failure that allowed the White House intruder last week. The cartoon also brings attention to the fact that the intruder got further into the White House than originally thought. It was drawn by cartoonist Jerry Holbert, who assures us that no racial stereotypes or racist humor was intended by his cartoon. The cartoon was revised in every paper except the Boston Herald.

Mr. Holbert explains that he saw watermelon flavored toothpaste and thought it was an odd flavor. It stuck in his head and he used it in his cartoon.

Now, here is Mr. Holbert's apology:  

 “Unfortunately, my choice of toothpaste flavors evoked old stereotypes, which I mistakenly overlooked. I will do my absolute best to be more careful and sensitive to all angles suggested by elements in my cartoons in the future.”
