Those who decry the Confederate Battle Flag as a symbol of racism, hatred, or bigotry are at best ill-informed, and at worst malicious. America's independence was won from England by white slave owners that seceded from their oppressive government and their rebel flag was the Stars and Stripes. If the men of 1776 cannot be called rebels and slave holding traitors, then neither can the men of 1861 that fought under the Confederate Battle flag for the very same reasons.
The Confederate flag is often held as a symbol of freedom across the globe except here in the politically correct US; where it is often regarded as a symbol of slavery, racism and oppression by the historically ignorant and those who profit from an agenda of keeping it so.
